Early Collaboration

Decades in custom residential work has given us a deep appreciation for what every member of a project team brings. The success of a project depends on thoughtful coordination between all of the players: the design team consisting of the architect, engineers, and specialty designers, and the construction team led by the general contractor.

The general contractor’s contribution is especially valuable when it comes early. A good GC brings construction knowledge, resourcefulness, and field experience that can shape a project for the better. Early involvement reduces risk, improves constructability, and helps identify decisions that could affect the schedule before they become a problem. It also helps establish clear roles from the start, which matters when the work gets complicated.

Documentation

Because our construction documents are how we communicate design intent for a contractor to build from, we take care to produce a complete and well-coordinated set of drawings, specifications, and instructions. There are countless details that give a project its character, and we take care to capture them in the drawings so the construction team can review and plan for them before work begins.

Construction Coordination

Clear, timely communication is what keeps a project moving once construction is underway. We’re available for whatever the team needs, whether it’s a quick question about design intent or a more involved issue that requires a coordinated response. We’re also careful about keeping a record. Conversations and decisions get documented and organized so they’re easy to find and reference later. We’re happy to work within a contractor’s preferred tools and document management systems.

We pay attention to the feedback contractors share about how the documents are performing in the field. That information helps us confirm the drawings are clear and that decisions are getting made in time to keep the project on track.
